2026 Summer Watercolor Workshop is open for enrollment!

This is a small group, intensive foundational workshop designed specifically for beginner watercolorists who want to gain confidence and control with the medium. This Beginner Watercolor Bootcamp focuses on mastering watercolor fundamentals — from handling paint and water, to simplifying subjects, applying the right visual treatment, and developing a cohesive color palette through primary color mixing.

What’s valuable about the course

Many beginners struggle not because of a lack of creativity, but because they don’t yet understand how to control the medium or build a strong foundation for their painting. This workshop helps you overcome those early hurdles by teaching a step-by-step approach to painting simple yet compelling subjects — landscapes, still life, and small scenes — using clear tonal contrast, intentional brushwork, and color harmony.

You’ll learn:

  • How to control water, pigment, and timing for confident washes and textures
  • How to simplify any subject into strong light, mid, and dark value shapes
  • How to choose the right visual treatment for different subjects (soft vs. hard, loose vs. defined)
  • How to mix a full range of colors using just three primaries — for beautiful, natural, and cohesive results

What's special about this course that my usual 2-hour classes don’t cover

This in-depth workshop goes far beyond the scope of my usual painting events.

1️⃣ You’ll receive comprehensive instruction and personalized coaching to help you fully develop the foundational watercolor skills that will serve you for years to come — setting you up for a more confident and fulfilling creative journey.

2️⃣ Instead of painting just one subject step-by-step alongside me, this course introduces you to a variety of landscape subjects — from woodlands and ocean scenes to boats, houses, and still life — helping you understand the different visual treatments required for each. By the end, you’ll feel confident approaching any subject that inspires you, knowing how to interpret and paint it in your own way.
